Google PageRank (PR)

What is PageRank?

Google PageRank is simply a rank from 0 to 10. The best being 10, worst being 0.

Why is it important?

You gain linking power. You can influence the algorithms to rank your site higher.

How is PageRank assigned?

Domains with PageRank can pass partial rank to another site. Let's say that google finds your links on a PR8 site. Your page will start to get spidered more often and will receive partial PR. You typically want a lot of domains with high PR to link to your site so that your PR grows.

How can I view PageRank

Google has a toolbar that is programmed to work inside Internet Explorer. For each site you load, the toolbar contacts Google and checks the ranking and displays the graphic representing the pagerank. Download the Google Toolbar.

What can I do with high PR domains?

You can use your PageRanks to link to your sites. Google will pass PageRank on to your other sites as a result.

Can expired domains lose their PageRank?

Google changes their algorithm quite frequently, however they still rely on PageRank. With PageRank you can 'sort of' get around their new algorithms. As a result they want to prevent expired domains from retaining their PageRank. They may delete PR on some domains, however they do not delete all. This is your warning that PR may change at anytime.

Will PageRank come back on an expired domain?

We have received emails from people suggesting that Google restored PR on their domains after a short amount of time with a few inbound links. This may or may not happen on your expired domains.

Fake PageRank

It seems Google associates some domains with other domains. For example: Macomedia.com has PR10. We assume Google associated that domain with Macromedia.com. We have seen it a couple of times. Just be aware of this and do research when in doubt.
